Happy Halloween!

Warning, there is a picture of a real spider at the end of the post. Thought I'd put that for the squeamish out there. Not that I love spiders myself, but as a budding weaver, I have developed a fascination with their web weaving abilities and this little guy was working hard a couple of weeks ago, and I grabbed the camera. Thought I'd save the picture for Halloween. If you're having trouble seeing the web, just click on the picture for an extreme closeup.

Anyway, just to give people a little more warning before the spidey picture, I'll tell you guys that the loom did fit! It's all set up in the basement now. I've tied on the tie-ons, and I still need to tie on the apron bars and put on all the heddles. Then I have to put together the bench. Hopefully I'll finish all that this weekend (now that I've finished Halloween costumes) and be able to warp the loom. I also bought several kits from Yarn Barn at the same time as the loom, so maybe I'll be off and running early next week!

So, here's the picture of Mr. (or perhaps Mrs.) Spidey. Happy Halloween!

Looky at what came!

Okay, now I'm off to make sure that it's going to make it around that one corner on the basement stairs!

Loom story

The other day, I mentioned that I had ordered my loom. This loom is my Christmas present from last year, but it was conditional. My husband had told me that I could order it when I had finished cleaning the basement so that there might actually be room for it. For the heck of it, I called a loom store last week just to ask some questions, and they told me that since they didn't have the loom in stock it would be about eight weeks from the time I ordered. Since I tend to work better under a deadline, my wonderful husband agreed to let me go ahead and order it, so I did. I got a call on Tuesday telling me that when we had spoken the first time they had thought I was talking about the four-harness; they actually did have an eight-harness in stock and could send it right out. So, seriously, you think I'm going to say no?

So, instead of eight weeks to finish cleaning the basement, I only have a few days to prepare for my Mighty Wolf loom. I really should have taken "before" pictures because it was really bad, but today it looks like it might actually be doable.

Have I mentioned how wonderful my husband is? A few weeks ago, he surprised me totally out of the blue with this:

I know it looks a bit gold in the picture, but if you can read the writing, it's actually sterling silver. I love Romi pins, so very beautiful.

Well, I need to get back to the basement!

Socks and stuff!

My posting has become so erratic that I've considered abandoning the blog altogether. I just can't bring myself to do it though. I've made such good friends through it that I just can't do it yet. So, meanwhile, I'll keep posting erratically and maybe try and post more often again.

I finished my Trekking/Cat Bordhi socks:

Pattern: Master Upstream from New Pathways
Needle size: 0s
Yarn: Trekking 05

I also started some new socks in the Ocean Toes pattern (same book) in STR, Romancing the Stone is the colorway, I think:

I also may have ordered a really big item that I've been wanting for quite a while. Anyone want to guess what it might be? Oh, all right, I won't make you wait the eight weeks to see what it is. It's a weaving loom. I've finally ordered it.
